“The most important business that you do is prayer.”
my pastor, yesterday
Gloom and doom are not just on the horizon these days. Seems more like they’re knocking at the back door, and maybe the front door, at the same time.
Friends out of work… I thank the Lord, though not often enough, that Mr. Extraordinary has had such good job security for so long. I am so thankful, and yet, painfully aware of the struggles of many we know, and countless more we don’t know, in our community, our nation, our world. And so we pray, prayers of thanks for our blessings, and prayers of petition for our friends. We can’t employ them all. We can’t feed them all. We sit now in a place of uncertainty we haven’t faced before…
We can pray.
News of economic collapse coming… we can pray.
A friend on strict bedrest, hoping to avoid delivering twins 12 weeks early, then 11 weeks, then 10, still 9 more to go… we can pray.
2 aunts having biopsies and awaiting results… we can pray.
Missionary friends in a third world country worried about a sick child… we can pray.
Friends battling depression… we can pray.
Last year’s medical bills still needing to be paid… we can pray.
Family vehicle needs more work, after the $1200 we already put into it… we can pray.
Word of another family splitting up, “never thought it would happen to them”… we can pray.
Friends on the other side of the world (Australia) losing their home in the raging floods while we remain completely helpless to help from this side of the world… we can pray.
Friend in an Alaskan remote fishing village needing big-city medical attention… we can pray.
Concerns over a child’s heart… we can pray.
The longer I sit, the longer I think, the longer my list grows…
I need to pray, and then I need to pray, and then I need to pray some more.
The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
