We sort of home school year-round, but that certainly doesn’t mean hours of schoolwork a day throughout the summer. Nope, there are way too many nice days when everyone would rather be running around outside, but then there are also quite a few days that are uncomfortably hot and sticky and everyone would rather be inside where the air is cooler, and the pollen count is a lot lower (we use some hefty whole-house filters due to our girls’ chronic asthma issues). We keep them reading and working through their math books, though at a much slower pace than throughout the typical school year.
Anyway, summer may not technically be over, but with the coming and going of Labor Day, we can unofficially call it officially over.
School is back in session.
Do you know what that means?
It means that I’m busy, busy, dreadfully busy. With 2 field trips on the calendar this week, a Twins game (yesterday, we won! or rather, they won! we really had nothing to do with it…), 2 soccer games plus practices, violin lessons, and chiropractor appointments in addition to our homeschooling, “spare time” is the stuff of myths & legends for me this week.
We did break out the math books, and the English books, some phonics and handwriting, and do some history reading today. We didn’t get to everything on the list, but that could have something to do with the fact that my lists are always way too long. Always. Seriously. I’m a list-lover, addict even. Actually, I’m quite dependant on them (lists), and would most certainly forget most of the things I intended to do on any given day if it weren’t for my lists. I usually just transfer the things I/we didn’t get to one day onto the next day’s list.
Sometimes I transfer a lot…
Anyhoo, we took a few 1st Day of School pictures (these aren’t them, these are the loosen up and act silly pictures, doesn’t everybody do that?), but it was drab and overcast and windy and even rainy for a while today, blah. I’m hoping to get some better pics of each of the kids outside in actual sunlight tomorrow. Yay, sunlight!
How about you? Busy week?
